DEFINITION
To manage, organize and implement a variety of recreational, educational, leisure, athletic, and special event activities and programs for youth and adults at various parks & recreation facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Programs Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage, promote, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreational, educational, leisure, athletic and special event activities, classes and programs.
  • Organize, implement, and supervise comprehensive summer and holiday day camp programs.
  • Contribute, prepare and distribute advertising material such as: flyers, graphics, logos, brochures, newsletters, posters, etc.
  • Set up facilities for programs and/or events and maintain a safe environment throughout the duration of the activities, programs or events.
  • Respond to inquiries or requests for information from interested community groups and citizens.
  • Maintain recreation facilities and equipment in a neat and orderly manner; take inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Participate in center meetings; assist in evaluating program techniques and content.
  • Prepare and submit program and event attendance reports as well as monthly performance measures.
  • May be required to perform general clerical duties such as light typing, filing, and record keeping.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to dust, mites, and radiation hazards; exposure to constant noise and extreme heat; writing; walking; typing; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; filing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, by two-way radio, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of a personal computer, typewriter, and calculator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Techniques of supervising children during recreation activities.
  • General program content for community recreation activities in area of assignment.
  • Recreational, cultural, athletics and special event needs of the community.
  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Basic mathematics.
Ability to:
  • Manage, organize and implement a variety of recreational, educational, leisure, athletic, and special event activities and programs for youth and adults at various parks & recreation facilities.
  • Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new or ongoing recreation offerings.
  • Work with both children and adults in supervising recreation activities and services.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Some experience in directing recreational activities and a High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License. Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months, an Emergency First Aid and valid CPR Certification w/ AED Administration.
